If you have a portable smoker,enclosed box,there is no way you can get a meths smell/taste,as the meths in the dish heats up bottom of box which heats wood chips to smoke. maybe its the chips themselves,had some that left a taint taste. Meths is actually 95% ethanol - the stuff you drink in your beer/wine etc.
