Not really a limit. But they stop growing to the full size if the tank is too over stocked. And are more likely to get bacterial infection or what not with so many in one location....

5 or 6 is a good, you could add a few more though. You could get both males and females, I've noticed they seem to stop breeding once the tank gets cramped....

If they are of different sexes, 3 should be enough, they will reproduce. If to fill the tank at once and remove offsprings later, then 15, it shouldn't look overcrowded. Id say 15-20 also, once you get used to the demanding water changes of a small tank....
