They consider it a form of littering in the lakes and rivers. Not to mention, you can put the dead carp to much better use. Even if the carp isn't dying, they're considered an invasive species, and it's illegal to release them back into the water....

There is no practical limit to the size fish that can be landed on ten pound line. A lot depends on the skill of the angler. The quality and smoothness of the drag on the reel and the ability to follow the fish to enable not running out of line and to keep excess line out of the water....

If you are targeting the carp then 6lb straight through would be a start. You could fine down to 4lb if you are struggling for bites and even go back to 2.8lb for smaller species....
